Priorities in Teacher Education: The 7 Key Elements of Pre-Service Prepartion

Priorities in teacher education: The 7 key elements of preservice preparation and Teaching in a nutshell: Navigating your teacher education program as a student teacher. The text reported on 22 teachers’ first three years of practice. In these texts, we outlined seven priorities for teaching and teacher education which was a ground-breaking approach to improving teacher education. The 7 priorities are:
• program planning
• pupil assessment
• classroom organization and community
• inclusive education
• subject content and pedagogy
• professional identity
• a vision for teaching.
These two texts fulfilled a long-standing goal of ours: to write for both researchers and student teachers. The two texts are seen as companions: Priorities is written for teacher educators while Nutshell is aimed at student teachers.
